SECONDARY MEANING
31.10.2019 – 30.11.2019

A solo show by Anna Vishnevskaya at the Ex Libris space
«Dissolve» illustrates the state of utter loss of one's identity in a crowd, the state of loneliness. While people are in one place, their minds can be in different places, so the characters flying away symbolise the escape from reality. The composition resembles an iconostasis but at the same time depicts ordinary people and their personal experiences. «Expectation» is a metaphor – not for a specific psychological state but for a life stance in which everyone is trying to carve out a niche for themselves, looking for a vacant 'seat', someone leaves their 'station', someone's place is empty, someone's place makes them feel depressed, but all people are united by the fact that everyone expects something regardless. It's exhausting. Uncertainty is exhilarating and frightening», explains the artist.
The audience is invited to interpret these works freely, regardless of the author's interpretation, and independently invent their own perception and way of experiencing the works. The full-length figures, inspired by Vishnevskaya's friends, acquaintances and family members, are abstract characters. In the Ex Libris space, they will mingle with visitors, and on days without visitors, they will turn it into a mysterious nativity scene or action set, the meaning of which everyone can decipher for themselves.
