Artist Talk: Elena Artemenko

We are pleased to invite you to an artist talk by video artist and sculptor Elena Artemenko, whose works overrule the contradictions between the material and the object.

Elena studied Journalism at the Kuban State University and Media Art at the Rodchenko Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia, and the ‘New Media: Video and the Art of New Technologies’ workshop. She was nominated for the Kandinsky Prize (2012–2014) and received the Grand Prix of the Transmission Video Art Festival (2017), the First Prize at the Foresight Film Festival in Germany (2016) and many others.

At the introductory lecture, she will tell us about her way of interacting with marble and creating a series about the non-resistant of materials. For models for future sculptures she chooses materials that are easily malleable but swiftly return to their previous shape. By reproducing them in marble, she deprives the material of its resistive force, pushing it to "freeze" in a subordinate state.
